The Power of Developmental Improvisation:

New Tools, Exercises, and Games for Education and Cognitive Growth

Imagine being just a child and feeling so crippled by your learning disability that you let go of all your goals and dreams. That’s exactly how Linda Fulton felt…until she discovered improvisation. Today, Linda is a community leader, improv expert and the founder of Total Improv Kids, the country’s premiere school for teaching the art of improvisation to children.

The Power of Developmental Improvisation is an all-purpose guide to helping kids learn and grow through the fun and creativity of improv. By no means an “acting book,” this revolutionary work highlights The Fulton Method, a new system to offer teachers, coaches, medical professionals and parents a new approach to developing the personal tools, useful skills and life lessons kids and other students will need to grow and thrive as unique individuals. Linda has the same goal with this book as she does with her improv school: to use the art of improvisation to offer students a fun and exciting means of tapping into and expanding their imaginations, nurturing important life skills, and allowing them to find the greatest potential in themselves and each other.

In The Power of Developmental Improvisation, Linda offers a look at her story of struggle and how finding improvisation as a teen completely changed her life as well as personal stories and testimonials from past and present students and their loved ones about what improvisation did and continues to do for everyone. The book also breaks down a science-based examination of how learning works and how improvisation pulls from the best of these developmental theories to help approach learning from a different angle, making it accessible to students of all educational and social levels.

In the bulk of the book, Linda provides a game plan for teaching developmental improvisation through The Fulton Method. This book includes dozens of entertaining and educational improv games, adapted and/or created by Linda using The Fulton Method to help develop cognitive growth and mental agility and teach skills such as confidence, cooperation, memory recall, focus, intuition, trust, self-validation and much more.

The Power of Developmental Improvisation is a valuable resource that is geared toward kids ranging from 8-18 years old (though accessible to all ages) that will open up their mind and help them not only discover skills they never knew they had, but also prepare them for wherever their future takes them.
